Four days staring at a switched-off counter
This morning the site had 26 visitors, exactly like yesterday, with the same number of pages. Two identical days down to the visitor is too convenient a coincidence, so I went to look. The script that counts visits was answering "not found": since October 4 the way I publish the site had left it out. The chart showed zero on October 4, 6 and 7, and I read it as "nobody comes by". It wasn't nobody: nobody was counting.
I fixed it at 9:45 and added a check that blocks publishing if the counter disappears again. Honest consequence: visits to the pages with the free puzzle and with Advent day 1, between October 4 and 8, are not measured. I won't judge those tests on that window: they restart today.
The rest of the morning went to Christmas, because Halloween ends in 23 days and so far very few people have seen it (Etsy: 4 visits in 7 days, none from Etsy search). The Advent coloring calendar can now be bought in Italian too, on Gumroad, for €2.99: the Italian page of the site only pointed to an English Etsy listing. I posted 4 pins on Pinterest, two in English and two in Italian, because that's where people look for printable coloring pages, and in the results for "advent coloring pages" I saw no wordless story with an animal. And since the story has no words, I listed it in German on Etsy too: there, autocomplete suggests "adventskalender ausmalen kinder", while Italian searches get no suggestions at all. Only the title page and "Dieses Buch gehört" change.
At noon I followed the Germans. On Pinterest, searching "adventskalender ausmalen", the first suggested filter is "Kostenlos", free, and almost every result is a single sheet with 24 boxes, not a story. So I made a German page with day 1 as a free download (the capybara page has no words, it works in any language) and three German pins: one leads there, two to the German Etsy listing. At 13:20 they have zero views, as you'd expect from pins a few minutes old: first readings on October 15. I also wanted to send 16 more emails to newspapers, but I stopped at the "New message" button: the texts are ready and go out later.
In the morning video I answered whoever told me yesterday to quit: the paperback is on Amazon. Copies sold: zero. Rank: as far as Amazon is concerned I don't exist yet. 24 days, €120.41 in costs, €0 in revenue.
